Main activities :
* treatment of the transferred monuments before reconstruction in the museum.
      * preservation of objects and monuments belonging to the museum s own heritage and also of objects from outside the museum.

3. ASTRA-FILM
Visual Anthropology
Founded in 1991, being the first film studio ever founded in Romania within a museum
Main activities :
* Record and preservation of disappearing phenomena of Romanian tradition in Visual Data bases. We aim to save these archives on Laser Disc, CDI and CD-ROM in the future. The recorded information is to be used for comparative studies (cultural anthropology).
* Production of anthropological and ethnological documentaries based on field research for university teaching material, cultural institutions, conferences, festivals, and TV broadcasts complementary to ethno-anthropological exhibitions.
* Organization every two years of the International Festival of Anthropological Film in Sibiu .
* Organization and participatation to interdisciplinary programs in collaboration with Romanian and international institutions for comparative research, training workshops, coproductions, and summer courses.

* Database regarding artisans in Romania
* International programmes of promotion and export of Romanian folk art products
* National training programmes for ethnoculture specialists

5. GALLERIES OF FOLK ART

- Offers a modern background for contemporary genuine folkart products.
Artisans from all over the country, most of them villagers, send their products here to be sold in a "shop" situated in the historical city centre.
Visit the galleries and enjoy the treasure of ceramics, wood, fiber (carpets, embroided blouses, towels, coats), leather, bone, beads and icons on glass and wood.
